The Way We See It
Maggie Vasto, PMHNP-BC
As a child, mental health was not a topic that came up often, if at all. It was an uncomfortable subject to address and seemed like it carried little importance in my family life. What took me so long to learn was, you can’t care for others until you help yourself. It’s almost like getting on an airplane when the flight attendants tell you that you must place the mask on yourself before you help others. We have to take care of ourselves first and foremost. After successful completion of my Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner’s degree, I am committed to dedicating my life’s work to giving back and becoming an advocate for those that have struggled. I am committed to talking about mental health in a way that makes us both feel not so alone and less uncomfortable. I have found in life, true fulfillment comes from helping others. That’s what makes the difference between other practitioners and myself. I am here for you and, together, we can all feel empowered for the bright futures that lie ahead.
